Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is dental hygiene and why is it important?

Dental hygiene refers to the practices that help maintain the health of your teeth and gums, such as brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings. Regular hygiene habits prevent the build-up of plaque and tartar, which can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. Keeping your teeth clean is essential for overall oral health and can contribute to your general well-being.

We recommend visiting the dental hygienist at least once every six months for a professional clean. However, depending on your individual needs, your hygienist may suggest more frequent appointments, especially if you are prone to plaque build-up or gum issues. Regular visits ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy and free from harmful bacteria.

During your dental hygiene appointment, our experienced hygienist will carry out a thorough clean to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth and gums. They will also offer advice on improving your brushing and flossing techniques, and may apply fluoride treatments to protect your teeth. If necessary, they will provide guidance on how to manage gum health and recommend suitable products for your oral care routine.

Yes, poor dental hygiene is one of the leading causes of bad breath, often due to the build-up of bacteria in the mouth. Regular visits to the hygienist help to remove plaque and tartar, which can harbour bacteria, as well as ensuring that your mouth stays fresh and clean. If bad breath persists, your hygienist will be able to identify any underlying issues, such as gum disease or other oral health concerns.
