Jamie Pugh

Jamie qualified from Cardiff Dental School in 1996. Following completing his Vocational Training in a practice in Cardiff he did jobs in hospital in oral surgery and practices in Swansea and Aberdare before opening his own practice in Aberdare in 2001.

Dr. Jamie Pugh has been a dedicated and passionate dentist in Aberdare for over 24 years. A proud graduate of Cardiff University Dental School in 1996, Jamie began his career with hospital posts in oral surgery, followed by several general practice roles across Wales.

In 2001, he returned to his hometown of Aberdare to establish his own practice, fulfilling his lifelong ambition to provide top-quality dental care to the community that shaped him. Driven by a commitment to excellence, Jamie believes in continuously evolving as a healthcare provider.

He has travelled extensively, seeking advanced dental education in leading centres around the world, including in the USA, Italy, Egypt, Türkiye, and the UK. This dedication to learning ensures that he brings the latest techniques and best practices to his patients.

Dr. Pugh’s goal is simple: to provide personalised, high-quality care in a welcoming environment where every patient feels valued. Whether you’re seeking general dentistry, cosmetic procedures, or more specialised treatments, Jamie is here to ensure your smile is healthy, confident, and radiant.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Pugh loves spending quality time with his two children, enjoying the stunning South Wales countryside, especially its mountains and waterfalls. A passionate judo enthusiast, he continues to train and compete alongside his sons. He also enjoys hitting the gym and playing guitar, balancing his active lifestyle with his professional commitments.

Charlotte Baker

Charlotte first became interested in the dental profession after visiting Jamie Pugh Dental Healthcare as a patient! Charlotte has an education and background in business and IT, however she was impressed by the level of care she received at Jamie Pugh’s, particularly the preventative approach of the team, empowering patients to become dentally healthy for life. Her experience as a patient inspired a total career change for Charlotte and in 2006 she became part of the Jamie Pugh team, as a trainee Dental Nurse. Charlotte thrived at the practice, developing her skills as a Dental Nurse and became a qualified Dental Nurse in 2008, where she won an award for her achievements on the South Wales Dental Nurse course. 

 

Charlotte continued to develop her skills and further her training by attending Cardiff University full time to become dually qualified in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy in 2012, for which she won another award, this time for the highest achieving student in her year group for the various assessments undertaken over the duration of the course. 

 

Charlotte loves learning and has more recently expanded her skills to include facial aesthetics and facial therapy treatments.

Charlotte is patient focused and passionate about patient care. She is always smiling and will go above and beyond to put patients at ease.

 

Outside of work, Charlotte is a busy mother of 3 young children and adores spending time with her family.

Claire Smith

Claire began her journey with our team in 2014 as a Trainee Dental Nurse. After qualifying and becoming GDC-registered in 2015, she gained extensive experience working alongside Jamie, associate dentists, and the hygienist, as well as assisting on reception and in the dental health room.

 

In 2018, Claire pursued a new direction in her career. Three years later, after an engagement and welcoming her baby boy, she rejoined the Jamie Pugh team.

 

Now, as our Practice Manager, Claire oversees the daily operations of the practice while continuing to actively participate in patient care. You may spot her assisting with implant placements, a role she thoroughly enjoys.

Aston Parmar

Aston Parmar graduated from Leeds University in 2010 and has been working in general practice in South Wales since then. He exclusively performs private dentistry as it affords him the opportunity to pursue the highest possible standard of restorative and prosthetic dentistry with a particular focus on implants. He is passionate about his clinical work and feels privileged to be able to help people whilst working as a dentist.

 

His training courses span a range of disciplines including implants (be them simple single units or bridges, through to more complex sinus surgery and ‘all on X’ cases and ‘teeth in a day’ cases), full mouth rehabilitations, treatment of tooth wear, advanced dentures, endodontics, orthodontics, facial aesthetics and cosmetic dentistry.

 

Aston is the first and only graduate in Wales of the prestigious Kois Academy in Seattle in 2023. This is widely regarded as the global standard of occlusion education and advanced restorative dentistry. His time in America highlighted the poor education and treatment options for dental airway management (the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, amongst other sleep issues) and he has also recently become the first ever graduate in Wales with a PG Cert in Dental Sleep Medicine, allowing him to effectively diagnose and treat these patients effectively.

 

He lives in Cardiff with his wife, two children and golden-doodle dog Merlin. He has a passion for food, cars, whisky and beekeeping.

Charlotte George

Associate Dentist

Charlotte graduated from the University of Bristol in 2010. From there, she worked in a private practice in Australia for 3 years before heading back to Cardiff, Charlotte has been a member of the team since 2023.

 

In addition to General Dentistry, she is passionate about Aesthetic Treatment, including anti-wrinkle, dermal filler, and cosmetic treatments like aligners, composite bonding, and veneers.

 

Out of work, you can find her trying to tire out her cocker spaniel Sid on long walks!

Neema Mal

Neema qualified from Cardiff University and has been practicing since 2006. He lives with his young family in Roath and enjoys running and regularly takes part in marathon events.

 

Neema provides all aspects of general dentistry as well as cosmetic dentistry including aligners (i.e Invisalign etc)

Melissa Owen

Melissa began her career in dentistry in 1991 and is a qualified dental nurse and radiographer.

Her primary role is Treatment Planning Coordinator, and she has a particular passion for cosmetic smile makeovers. She finds it incredibly rewarding to see patients’ before and after photos and witness the boost in their confidence.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys spending quality time with her family, cooking, attending gym classes, singing in a ladies’ choir, and walking her Jack Russell, Berri, in the mountains.

Gabrielle Edwards

Qualified Dental Nurse (DCP)

Gabrielle has been working at Jamie Pugh dental healthcare since October 2022 and has recently qualified as a dental nurse studying C&G level 3 diploma in dental nursing and is also registered with the GDC.


Her Favourite treatment when working with the Dentist is orthodontic treatment, this is because she loves to see when patients get the results they want and  feel confident with their smile.


When she is not in work she enjoys spending time with my friends and family, shopping and eating out.

Sophie Juliff

Dental Nurse & Receptionist

Sophie is a dedicated and compassionate dental nurse she is passionate about patient care, she works alongside dentists to assist in clinical procedures, manage patient records, and ensure that the dental office operates smoothly and efficiently.

Outside of work, Sophie enjoys experiencing new foods, travelling and spending time with her family. With a passion for promoting oral health and supporting dental teams, she continues to make a positive impact on every patient’s dental experience.

Shannon Woods

Qualified Dental Nurse (GDP)

Shannon is a highly skilled and compassionate dental nurse with 3 years of experience in supporting both patients and dental professionals.

With a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of dental procedures, she ensures that every aspect of patient care is met with precision and empathy. From assisting during treatments to maintaining a sterile and organised clinical environment, Shannon plays a pivotal role in making each visit as comfortable and efficient as possible.

Known for their excellent communication skills and dedication to continuing education, she is a trusted team member who consistently prioritises patient well-being and safety.

Julie Pugh

Receptionist

Julie has dental experience in various dental roles for over 40 years and had a break in her dental career when she was involved in running a local pub and a rugby club.
Julie decided to come back into dentistry and joined the Jamie Pugh team and has worked at the practice for the past 6 years.

 

Julie enjoys dealing with patients and making them feal at ease during their visits to us.

Outside of work, Julie enjoys travel and spending time with family and her dog.

Dawn Swell

Receptionist

Dawn has been a valued member of Jamie’s team for over six years. She thoroughly enjoys meeting patients and appreciates the opportunity to learn something new every day.

 

Before joining the practice, Dawn worked in retail, where she honed her people skills. She is also qualified in various holistic therapies, bringing a calming and caring presence to the team.

 

Outside of work, Dawn’s greatest joys are spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, as well as enjoying time with friends and planning holidays.

Joanne Mason

Joanne has been a part of the team for over 12 years and started at the practice as a Trainee Dental Nurse qualifying and registering with the GDC in 2015. Joanne is a highly dedicated and compassionate Head Dental Nurse and thrives to ensure our patients always receive 5 star care. She has worked alongside Jamie for over 12 years and you may also see Joanne working with our associate dentists and is our main Implant Placement Nurse.

 

Her passion for dentistry is matched only by her love for her children, whom she describes as her greatest joy and inspiration. Outside of the working day, she can often be found spending quality time with her family and taking her children to their hobbies (which takes up most of her weekends – but she wouldn’t have it any other way)

Rachel Scallan

Dental Hygienist

Rachel has over 15 years of experience in dentistry, and is dedicated to helping patients achieve optimal oral health and confidence in their smiles. Her career has taken her to London, Dublin, and New Zealand, where she has gained extensive expertise in preventive dental care, gum health, and patient education


She is passionate about providing gentle, thorough hygiene treatments tailored to each patient’s needs. Alongside dental care, she’s qualified in facial aesthetics, offering subtle, natural enhancements that complement overall oral health and well-being. Her approach is centered on comfort, education, and achieving long-lasting results.
